Silvia Xalabarde is a Certified Translator and Interpreter with extensive experience translating millions of words across multiple languages. Over the years, she has worked with clients from diverse industries, earning glowing reviews for her precision, professionalism, and ability to meet the unique needs of each project.
In addition to leading her thriving business, Pluma Translations, Silvia is the current President of the Society of Translators and Interpreters in BC (STIBC) and the Chair of the Board of Examiners at CTTIC, Canada’s national certification body.
An enthusiastic researcher and user of new technologies, Silvia is passionate about integrating AI and other advancements into translation workflows. Her expertise in this area has led her to speak at conferences, where she shares insights on the evolving role of technology in the translation and interpreting industry and the use and misuse of translation tools. Under her leadership, Pluma Translations stays at the forefront of innovation, combining cutting-edge tools with a personal touch to deliver unparalleled quality.
Ben is an experienced writer and translator who translates from French, Spanish, and German to English. He translates a broad range of material including legal, financial, and immigration-related documents. His educational background in immigration law at Queen’s University and UBC gives him an excellent understanding of translation related to immigration.
Ben also enjoys translating fiction and has worked on novels and a variety of shorter fiction. Ben writes fiction and creative nonfiction and has been published in a number of magazines including The Walrus, New York Press, and Prairie Fire.
Melissa Cheers is a recent high school graduate with a passion for branding and marketing. She has a creative spirit and is in charge of many different adverts and social media. She is Silvia’s daughter and works on posters and on the website for Pluma Translations and Community. Melissa has grown up in Vancouver and in Spain, making her bilingual.
Melissa is passionate about music and the gym. She has an interest in languages and making connections, perfect for a translation assistant/receptionist. She is just getting started with her career and hopes to continue learning and growing at Pluma Translations and Community.
